What are the accommodation arrangements for players?

Each player will have their own individual room equipped with amenities, including a bed, desk, and wardrobe. They will also have a private bathroom for added comfort and convenience.

Does the team play against academies, or men's teams?

Our team competes within the FIFA system, based in Spain, under the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) and FCyLF (Castilla y Leon Football Federation).
You can view our schedule and current standings on our website. Starting in September 2025, we will also field a youth team in a regional academy league to provide more tactical and technical competition and greater exposure to different clubs.

How do players spend their spare time outside of training?

Players use their spare time by enrolling in coaching courses to enhance their soccer knowledge, attending Spanish language classes, or pursuing academic studies through affiliated online universities to earn credits for potential NCAA transfer. They also have access to a gym at the residence for workouts and recovery, as well as shared spaces to relax and unwind.

What is the duration of the program offered at the Academy?

The program runs from August to May/June, depending on whether the team advances to the playoffs. Most players are signed to a one-year contract, though mid-season contract terms may be shorter based on team needs. Our goal is to provide all the necessary resources for players to grow both as soccer players and as individuals.

What level of coaching qualifications do our instructors possess?

Our coaching staff holds UEFA licenses and has extensive experience in professional soccer environments, ensuring top-tier training and guidance for players to reach their full potential. You can see the staff on our website page.

Can players of all skill levels enroll in the Academy?

No. Players are selected based on scouting at tournaments, showcases, referrals, or through a thorough review of film. We focus on recruiting talented players to achieve our goal of promotion.

How does the Academy support players in their academic endeavors?

Players who wish to pursue soccer in the NCAA can take college courses online while in Spain, which are transferable to U.S. universities. We have partnerships with universities to offer academic support, helping players balance their soccer development with educational goals online. Additionally, players have the option to pursue in-person studies if desired.

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?

Yes, we offer scholarship opportunities and financial aid based on merit and need, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent talented players from joining the academy.

What is the process for international players to join the Academy?

Most players are from North America. Our team will guide them through the necessary steps, including visa arrangements and enrollment procedures, to ensure a smooth transition into the program.

How many teams does the Academy have?

For our inaugural season in September 2024, we have one senior team competing in the league. Starting in September 2025, we will also field a youth team in a regional academy league to provide more tactical and technical competition and greater exposure to different clubs. Each roster will have 20 players.

Where are our players from?

Our scouting network is based in North America, with players from across the U.S. and Canada. We focus on discovering under-the-radar talent—players with athletic and technical ability who need further development in the tactical aspects of their game. Select Generation has extensive expertise in the North American soccer system and understands various pathways after high school graduation.

Can players sign for more than one year?

Players typically sign a one-year contract to complete the season. However, if a player shows significant development and wants to continue while pursuing a two-year associate's degree, for example, we can offer the option to extend their contract for a second year.

What is Select Generation?

Select Generation is a global talent identification soccer agency dedicated to taking players to the next level. We provide resources for players, scouts, and coaches, helping players gain exposure and opportunities at both the collegiate and professional levels in Europe.

My son wants to play college soccer in the NCAA. Can he still do that if he plays for SGA for one year?

Yes, SGA players will maintain full NCAA amateur eligibility while playing for SGA. If studying Spanish lessons or a coaching course, their NCAA clock will not start. If they are doing school at UNH or a community college online, they need to take less than 12 credit hours for their clock not to start.

My son doesn’t drive, or he won’t have a car. How will he get around?

The field is a 5-minute walk from the student residence. The student residence is a 20-minute walk to downtown. We also provide vans for away games, and the squad travels together.

It’s a one-year season, but can he come home for Christmas break?

Yes! When the schedule is released, families are informed. Typically, there is a 2-3 week winter break during the holidays.

Do I need health insurance for this? What if he gets injured?

All players are covered by the Federation and the club. In case of a long-term injury, players can go to the hospital and use the club’s resources like our physio and physical trainer for recovery and rehabilitation.

Can I get student funding?

Select Generation Academy does not accept student financing options such as FAFSA or other academic grants. Scholarships are backed by sponsors and the Spanish Government.

How do I know my son got selected for this, and how is this not a "pay-to-play" program?

Players are handpicked after Select Generation has seen them live or, in rare cases, thoroughly reviewed full game film. SG Academy plays in the highly competitive Spanish football pyramid, where the best teams get promoted and the bottom teams are relegated.

How will I know he gets good playing time?

We only have 20 players on the roster, ensuring the squad has a healthy rotation and sees good minutes. Our goal as a club is to get promoted and compete at a high level, meaning the players selected need to be of the right standard to get regular playing time and make a significant impact on the field.
